Amrish Puri, the villain that gave heroes a complex, a man who is a literal translation of skill and dynamism. The amazing thing is that he made his cinema debut at the age of 40 and was yet a part of 400 brilliant roles, and won numerous awards.
On the day of his demise the Hindi film industry lost not just a terrific actor, but a man who made characters immortal. Here’s giving a tribute to Amrish Puri by remembering his most iconic dialogues.
Who does not remember the famous dialogue “Mogambo khush hua”? We may forget the real name of Mr. India in the film, but never can we forget Mogambo and the things that made him happy.
2. Jaa Simran jaa!
“Jaa Simran jaa, jeeley apni zindagi” was another iconic dialogue that Amrish Puri immortalised. In fact the entire character that he played in DDLJ, although a simple one was portrayed so realistically that it soon became a trend.
3. General Dong
Another example of a villainous dialogue that we can’t get over is “Upar wala wrong ho sakta hai lekin Dong kabhi wrong nahi hota” (Tehelka). Inki acting bhi kabhi wrong nahi ho sakti. Agreed?

4. The Khalnayak of Nayak
Another dialogue that gripped us was “Ae Ruko..No Arrest..No lathicharge.. Kuch busein jalti hai toh jalne doh, kuch log marte hain toh marne doh.. pehle chillayenge, fir ghar jayenge, ya toh marjayenge”. Quite villainous we must say.

It’s not just acting tips we can take from Amrish Puri, he also had some interesting business take aways. For example his hard hitting dialogue in Aitraaz “Aadmi ke pas dimaag ho toh woh apna dard bhi bech sakta hai” really got us thinking.
Steven Spielberg once said in an interview, “Amrish Puri is the best villain the world has ever produced and will ever be!”. That in itself says everything.
We miss you Amrish Puri, you will forever remain in our hearts. RIP
